A functional kitchen depends on how appliances, services and storage work together. These eight areas should be resolved before cabinetry and worktops are ordered.
1. Cooking surface
Choose gas, electric or induction around household preference, available services and ventilation. Allow safe clearances.
2. Oven position
Built-under and eye-level ovens affect storage and working height. Check door opening and a safe landing space for hot dishes.
3. Extraction
Size and route extraction around the room and cooking appliance. Ducted and recirculating systems have different requirements.
4. Sink and tap
Coordinate bowl size, worktop cut-out, tap clearance and cupboard space for wastes, filters or pull-out hose weights.
5. Dishwasher
Place it close enough to the sink for practical loading without blocking the main walkway when open.
6. Refrigeration
Check ventilation, hinge direction and the space required to remove drawers and shelves fully.
7. Task lighting and sockets
Plan lighting over preparation areas and place sockets around real appliance use, following electrical requirements.
8. Waste and recycling
Internal bins need enough capacity and should not conflict with sink plumbing or drawer mechanisms.
Coordinate the complete room
Manufacturer installation instructions, service access and ventilation clearances take priority over a purely symmetrical elevation. Bathwise can help align cabinetry, worktops, appliances and services before orders are placed.
