Five Bathroom Tap Styles and How to Choose

5 Unique Bathroom Sink Taps for your Next Bathroom Project - Bathwise

A bathroom tap should suit the basin, water system and way the room is used. Finish and shape matter, but projection, height and control are what determine whether it performs comfortably.

1. Compact basin mixer

A single-lever mixer is a practical choice for many one-tap-hole basins. Check that the spout reaches far enough into the bowl without sending water towards the waste at an awkward angle.

2. Two-handle deck-mounted tap

Separate controls can bring a traditional or architectural character. Confirm the number and spacing of tap holes and consider how easily the handles can be operated with wet hands.

3. Tall basin mixer

Tall mixers are designed for use with countertop basins. The combined height of worktop, basin and spout needs careful calculation, and the water stream should land within the bowl without excessive splash.

4. Wall-mounted basin tap

A wall-mounted fitting keeps the worktop clear, but the concealed body, pipework and final spout position must be coordinated before the wall is closed and tiled. Future service access also matters.

5. Three-hole arrangement

Separate hot and cold controls with a central spout create a composed, symmetrical look. They require suitable drilling and more installation space beneath or behind the surface.

Check the technical fit

  • Confirm minimum and recommended water pressure.
  • Match the tap to the basin’s overflow and waste arrangement.
  • Check spout projection, outlet height and handle clearance.
  • Coordinate visible wastes and accessories where possible.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and installation instructions.

Bathwise can help compare tap and basin dimensions together so the final pairing is comfortable, proportionate and suitable for the household system.
