The right shower enclosure controls water without making the bathroom difficult to move through or clean. Start with measured space and installation conditions before choosing a door style.
1. Measure the usable space
Record wall lengths, ceiling height, floor level and any windows, boxing or sloping ceilings. Allow for furniture, sanitaryware and comfortable entry outside the enclosure.
2. Choose the position
A corner enclosure uses two existing walls, while a recess needs only a door or screen. A walk-in arrangement requires enough length to contain spray and maintain warmth.
3. Check door movement
Hinged and pivot doors need clear floor space. Sliding or folding doors may suit compact rooms, but tracks and overlaps affect cleaning and opening width.
4. Compare frame and glass details
Framed systems can offer useful adjustment for imperfect walls. Minimal or frameless designs rely on accurate substrates and secure bracing. Glass thickness is only one part of the engineering; use the complete tested system.
5. Coordinate the tray or wet-room floor
The enclosure and tray dimensions, radius and handed orientation must be compatible. For a tiled floor, waterproofing, falls, drainage and screen position need to be designed together.

- Confirm adjustment tolerances after tiling.
- Check opening width and accessibility.
- Allow for stabilising bars and ceiling conflicts.
- Plan cleaning access around hinges and channels.
- Follow the manufacturer’s fixing and sealing instructions.
